An absolute blinding light has struck my eyes, through my blindness I glimpse a shadowy figure reaching for me. This figure grabs me by my shirt and pulls me into the promised land, leaving me with only one question. Is this God? Am I going to heaven?
No, it wasn't God and I didn't end up in the promised land, but to my delight I found myself in a place that's arguably better. THE PLAYOFFS BABY! Pulled into this beautiful place by not god but no other than my star running back Melvin Gordon. Through all the odds we fought and pulled 8 other fateful souls (the rest of my fantasy team) with us. I may have made it, but sadly the time for rejoicing is over. I didn't come this far to party, I came to win, and here is my advice to everyone that has come with me. If you've followed my advice so far this season then like me you're in the playoffs, and if you didn't, well enjoy your consolation bracket buddy. For those of us that are here we must prepare to take on this three headed beast that is the playoffs. This is not like the regular season, in the playoffs you are playing all the best teams in your respective leagues, there are no of weeks. As a result you can't just rely on your players being great, you have to key in on each players individual match up for that week. Match ups are incredibly important and to most effectively insure productive output you gotta play the guys who are playing bad teams. For your quarterbacks it is of dire importance to try and start guys who are playing bottom 16 pass defenses in the league that week. WIth running backs it is all and the same, make sure they’re slated against bottom 16 run defenses. If you highly regard your football genius then you can try and predict upsets and rely less on the ranking of individual defenses, but that is a hard game to play and I do not recommend it. Although this is common sense to many I must clarify for some of my “slower” readers that there are exceptions to this rule. There are players that no matter what defense they’re playing against they will give you serious output, and if you’re in the playoffs I am just going to guess you know who those players are. To ensure that my readers have the best chance at winning their playoff games this week I'm going to do something that I’ve never done before on this blog. I’m making a love list of all the top players at each position that you must start this week. The list goes as follows: Love: Quarterback: Patrick Mahomes; having an incredible season that only belongs in the history books. In only his second year in the league he has taken the NFL by storm establishing himself as one of the league's best, this week against one of the NFL’s worst teams shouldn’t be any different. Running Back: Aaron Jones; the potential noticed early on in the season and has just recently come to fruition with his sudden influx in carries. He has had three tremendous weeks in a row, and with him playing Arizona this week, another big scoring performance should be expected. Wide Receiver: Tyreek Hill; known as one of the fastest players in the league Hill is a ticking time bomb, he’s going to take the top off the defense it’s just a matter of when. This week he is slated against a below average defense in that of the Oakland Raiders, expect an onslaught of points from this speedster. Tight Ends: Rob Gronkowski; coming off of a three week playing hiatus Gronk had a fantastic week last week that should be expected to carry into week 13. As the number one redzone target for the Patriots, Rob is a TD machine and a must start in all leagues.

Three and five, that's my record. In this game nothing is given, a few slip ups or an unlucky stroke of events and your season could be over. Fantasy isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it's a mean and nasty place; it'll knock you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. Not you, not me, not anybody is gonna hit as hard as fantasy, but the champions take the hits and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Sometimes, though, that’s a lot of work. So just read my blog and I’ll give you the shortcuts.
Recognize your mistakes, analyze them, and attack them. That has been my approach the last two weeks. My first unfortunate loss came from one of my running backs being listed as out for the game. This wouldn't have been all that bad if they hadn't decided to announce it ten minutes before the dang kick off, which resulted in me leaving him injured in my lineup. This is something that was near out of my control but still it can be fixed. As a result I traded for a running back so that I had more depth in that position group on my team. A move I made in hopes of preventing that incident from ever happening again. Although there are many variables that you can fix in fantasy football there are some things that no matter how hard you try you still can't control. The main variable being idiocy. Idiots run rampant through this league at times, you can stay away from them all you want, but their actions will find a way to get back to you no matter what. Luckily, the weekly imbecile has had a positive effect on my playoff hopes. Zlan Ahu the former best team in our league has successfully ruined his team. He was an absolute powerhouse, on a 5 game win streak and embarrassing any team that had come in his path. His infamous running back tandem was wreaking havoc on our league, but thanks to the good man up above my prayers were answered. He traded away one of his best players for the equivalent of a few pesos and a pat on the butt for good luck. With every prolific empire comes a great demise, and he walked straight into his. When things like that happen it changes the whole structure of the league, when really good teams make costly mistakes it increases the competition of the league. As a powerhouse it is essential to understand that you absolutely should not make trades, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The only exception to this is if you know for a matter of fact that you’re winning the trade, you can’t trade for players with potential you have to get proven guys that are good now. Nothing should be left to chance when you’re already dominating. What does this mean for me you ask? Well it means my run to make the playoffs has just begun. Personally, I love being the underdog, when you force my back against the wall optimal results come soon after. My run for the championship starts this Sunday, and under the lights anything can happen. A painfully mediocre start to the season, and a rather embarrassing 67 point week-two performance has highlighted my season thus far. I know what you’re already thinking, a mediocre season? I thought I was supposed to be reading the blog of a fantasy expert? Well I have some news for you, championship teams aren’t built overnight. Hold your horses and buckle your seatbelts, the fantasy expertise you wish for is soon on it’s way. Our league has been around for four years running, fierce competition highlighting every season, but with such high stakes there’s always your underperformers. These my friend are the nuisances of the league. Sheer stupidity spotlights their every move, but the foul decision making isn’t the hardest part to stomach. What’s even worse is that with each maneuver they make deep down it is truly believed to be the right decision, no matter how terrible. Sadly for our league this year, bottom feeders have thrown me into a horrendous beginning. They themselves haven’t quite been able to hurt me, I’ve dodged those looming waves. Soon enough however, the unavoidable ripple got to me, something I haven’t quite gotten over. A powerhouse has been the resultant of those huge waves. You have one every year, the team that makes you itch your head and ask, “how on god’s green earth did you get all those players?” There are two ways to build a powerhouse that evokes fear into the heart of each of your opponents. The first being to build your team on draft day with surgeon like precision, picking all the right guys to put together a impenetrable force. That right there is something to be truly proud of, but sadly enough with every great story there has to be a villain and my villain didn’t build his powerhouse in such an honorable way. Bandrew Logue is the malefactor in this story, feeding off the malevolent bottom feeders to build his empire. Making the pill all that much harder to swallow, but no matter how much you don't like it, you still gotta respect it. He this year has used this strategy to a tee catapulting himself to a impressive 3-1 start. One of those wins coming against me, pummeling me in such a way that I had to rethink my whole philosophy. On the positive note, a good butt kicking can spawn some great ideas, and what was brought to light by this one in particular can be used by my readers. So, I’ll swallow my pride and act as a martyr for you all, here is what I came up with. Trading up, it’s the name of the game. Shipping off one “great” player to get two or even three back, trading away an expendable piece of your team for one that makes all the difference. When I find myself in a rut this is the strategy I use to navigate my way out, easy to learn and easy to use. You first need to find a player that is performing all too well, so well that it makes you question whether or not he can keep it up. Then you search for the optimist in the league, the guy that sees this rise to fame and can’t help but think it’s only the beginning. At that point you trade, the player you’re giving away has the highest stock that he will have all season. Eventually he will come back to earth and that can’t be while he’s on your team. In return, you get a player that maybe hasn’t been performing as well momentarily, but throughout the season will maintain a solid, team boosting output. Utilize this strategy, scour the waiver wires looking for the next big thing, but no matter what you do, don’t fall into his trap. As my words are dwindling and week 5 is approaching, I’ll be taking this strategy and many more into the following weeks. Which means your favorite fantasy insight is far from over. Keep your eyes peeled for the advice to come, because quite frankly if you’re reading my blog, you’re going to need it. Fantasy football. Yeah. That’s what you’re here to read about. If fantasy isn’t your cup of tea and you feel like clicking away, stop. You can thank me later for stopping you from making the worst mistake your life. Hello, I am Josiah Miamen, a 17 year old student at the ever so prestigious Dunlap High School. More importantly, I am a participant in the greatest fantasy football league in America, and I’m here to tell you about it.
Before we continue, there is something I need to clarify. I am not just an ordinary participant in this “league.” I am the league. You’re not reading the words of a league bum, I would never do that to you. You’re reading the words of a TWO TIME reigning CHAMPION in a league that has only existed for three years. Impressive? I know you don’t need to remind me. But I couldn’t do it by myself, accompanied by the likes of 11 mere mortals, I have put this league on the map with god like performances that can’t be reciprocated anywhere else. And that my friend is why you’re here. So take a seat, grab a bag of popcorn, and keep your eyes peeled on the word in front of you, because trust me you don’t wanna miss a single second of this. |
